The term “LED monitor” usually mentions a monitor with a LCD panel and a LED backlight. A common LCD monitor uses cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) as a light source to illuminate the LCD panel. In an LED backlit monitor, white LEDs (Light Emitting Diodes) were used as the light source. LED backlight supply the following benefits: About 40 less power intake in comparison to conventional CCFL monitor 30,000,000:1 MEGA Contrast percentage mercury free backlight Low EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) Slimmer design Weight reduction   Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamp LED: Light Emitting Diode   Save cash and save the planet

For estimated savings that could apply to the VX2453mh LED, visit the LED Savings Calculator at ViewSonic.Com/tco led MEGA dynamic contrast percentage
One of the great features of VX2453mh LED is its capability to dim the backlight totally for pure darkness throughout black scenes like a night shot in a movie. Contrast ratios refer to the percentage of the brightest color to the darkest color. With conventional CCFL backlit displays, contrast ratios are restricted to the fluorescent lamp’s capability to dim to reproduce darkness. But, with the LED backlight, each LED has the capability to totally shut off allowing for a near infinite percentage of black to white contrast. The result is true blacks that result in greater in general image quality. What is answer time?
Answer time in monitors refer to the total of time a pixel (dot) takes to go from black to white and back to black again. It’s calculated in milliseconds (ms). The reduce the number, the faster the pixels may change, decreasing the ghosting or streaking effect you may see in a moving or changing image like in games and movies. Common answer times range anywhere from 14ms to 5ms. Monitors that are intended for faster applications feature answer times as fast as 2ms. These monitors are ideal for gamers, video fans, engineers and movie production houses.   Slow (higher) answer time Fast (lower) answer time Full HD 1080p Resolution
The VX2453mh LED features a 24″ widescreen with 1920×1080 resolution that’s able of showing a native Full HD 1080p image. Today, devices that can display Full HD content output are to get more and more common. But, without a native Full HD display, you won’t be able to experience the picture clearness and the details of the 1080p content you view. The Power of HDMI®
HDMI is one of the most powerful and widely available communication standards that connects digital audio/video resources like set top boxes, DVD players, personal computers (PCs, laptops), video game consoles like the PlayStation® three and XBOX 360®, and AV receivers to matched audio devices, computer monitors, and digital televisions. With just one cable, HDMI supports any TV or PC video format, as well as high definition video and up to eight channels of audio. This powerful technology comes standard in VX2453mh LED. This way, you may be able to connect your monitor to your desktop or laptop computer and work, surf the web or play games. Or you may be able to connect it to your gaming console and enjoy the big 24” screen, 1ms answer time and integrated speakers. You may be able to connect it to a cable box or a satellite receiver and watch TV on your monitor! though the monitor doesn’t have a tuner to get the TV signals from the air, HDMI + receiver box mix gives you the same TV experience. And another great example of the many video resources you connect to is a Blu ray® DVD/CD player. SRS Premium Sound
ViewSonic partners with business leading audio expert, SRS Labs, to give you a great sound experience. Now is the time to hear the true nature of sound with SRS Premium Sound™ technology on your monitor. SRS Premium Sound delivers a superior audio experience for music, video and games: more natural and immersive, with deeper bass, clearer dialog and remaining surround sound. SRS Premium Sound software is included in the ViewSonic Wizard CD ROM. It needs to be installed and should be running on your computer to deliver the great sound experience. WITHOUT SRS Premium Sound: Flat audio sound, low bass WITH SRS Premium Sound: theater quality surround sound Diverse connectivity
The VX2453mh LED features three video inputs, Dual HDMI and VGA. You may be able to connect three different resources simultaneously , then toggle from one to another by selecting the input source through the On Screen Display (OSD). As well, you may be able to connect your audio source to the VX2453mh LED and listen through the integrated speakers or you may be able to easily hook up your headphones to the monitor for privacy.   Eco mode for up to 35 energy savings
ViewSonic’s proprietary Eco Mode function comes standard with the VX2453mh LED. When you don’t need all of the powerful features the VX2453mh LED has to offer, you have the choice to decrease the monitor’s light, save energy, and prolong the lamp life. You may be able to choose one of the “Optimize” or “Conserve” alternatives and save up to 35 energy. Particularly under low ambient light conditions, adjusting the light will improve visibility by decreasing eye exhaustion. Decreasing light will also prolong the monitor’s lamp life, improving your return on investment. The best pixel performance ensure and three year warranty

4.0 out of five stars Amazing clearness and super thin as the name, April 27, 2011
By OptimusPrime (Washington DC USA) See all my reviews This review is from: Viewsonic VX2453MH LED 24 Inch Ultra thin Widescreen LED Monitor Black (Electronics) This is an excellent monitor considering what it offers. I’m a person who sticks to a brand which delivers high quality and is worth using for some number of years. In monitors I favor Sony, ViewSonic or HP. I have been using Sony SDM S95DR LCD 19 inch monitors for nearly some number of years in the office. Samsung is doing great in monitor/screens but somehow I have a negative feeling/experience about this brand and it can not be compared with brands like Sony. I got this for my personal from Micro Center ($208 as well as tax) for use at home and is just great and saves hell lot of space. I reviewed this product on / Internet , then thought of going for it.

Pros:
1. Amazing resolution 1920x1080p.
2. No annoyance installing the product. I’m using Win seven and installed the software in CD came with the box.
3. Ultra Thin for sure in it is competition.
4. Two HDMI ports and one VGA (D Sub) port available with IN and OUT sound ports.
5. Also like the feature where you may be able to place the monitor like a photo frame. Just pull gradually the lever from the back and place it on the desk. No have to install the stand.
6. About looks: it is decent and pretty professional looking. I really do not like those glossy girly frames.

Cons:
1. It has in built speaker, but the volume is damn low at it is high setting. But I really do not care as I favor separate speakers. This is why I snatched one star from the ranking. But considering an super thin model this is what we should expect.

Additional information:
If you use HDMI connection, couple of menus will be disabled. Also if you experience your picture being crossing the screen then you may have to choose HDMI from the Input Selection from Menus. Menus like Auto image change and couple more are grayed out/disabled with HDMI connection. It is the behavior and not a fault.
Also note that this is a LED Backlit LCD monitor, though the title say only LED. I guess you will not get a full LED at this price.

The most selling on is ViewSonic VX2450WM as in comparison to this but VX2450WM has no HDMI and this has two HDMI connections with one D Sub and is super thin.

Update: July first 2011 After four months
You can not rotate the monitor after installing the stand. Not a drawback for me because I do not keep on changing the position of my monitor. As it is weight is light, moving/rotating the whole monitor position is easy. These are not those big CRT like monitors where you really need those rotating stands.

Crisp quality and saves space, totally no issues faced till date. 100 suggested.

Cheers.

5.0 out of five stars Great Display, April 6, 2011
By Emily Wind See all my reviews () This review is from: Viewsonic VX2453MH LED 24 Inch Ultra thin Widescreen LED Monitor Black (Electronics) This monitor has taken many flack for the way it sounds, so I’ll review this 1st. As far as sound goes, the fitted speakers aren’t nice sounding from what I tried of them, though this was without the included software which is meant to enhance their sound output. But, fitting amazing speakers in such a tight place as this really thin monitor isn’t possible caused by the reality of sound production requiring some speaker size to produce different frequencies caused by simple physics of vibration creation. If you want good sound though, all you must do is purchase a nice, inexpensive pair of computer speakers like Logitech S220 2.1 Speaker System with Subwoofer and plug them into the sound output on the back of the monitor and it’ll path all of the sound input from the HDMI into them, which is quite nice.

That said, think about that 1st and primary you’re buying an LCD monitor. Its true function is to display your desktop, pictures, videos and etc from your computer (or your Xbox 360, PS3, Blu Ray player and etc), not to play sound. In that realm, as far as 24″ monitors go from what I have seen and used, this is simply the best I have seen when in comparison to displays from vendors like ASUS and Apple. The colours are very vivid and the looking at angles are nice (can see movies/games from the extreme sides). The back lighting is perfectly balanced, non bleeding and it’s great for watching HD movies also as playing games or doing standard web browsing. It’s also very thin and light in spite of being 24″.

In short, if you’re considering purchasing this monitor; do.

4.0 out of five stars Great Monitor, March 8, 2011
By James Kebinger (Cambridge, MA USA) See all my reviews
(REAL NAME) This review is from: Viewsonic VX2453MH LED 24 Inch Ultra thin Widescreen LED Monitor Black (Electronics) I have had this monitor for some days. My 1st impressions are good. Screen is great with no dead pixels and lighting.

Pros:
Great picture
Looks good

Cons (and these I expected):
Stand is not adjustable vertically
Speakers sound awful. (tinny, which is to be projected on a monitor this skinny)

There’s a gotcha I experienced hooking up my Macbook Pro via a Display Port to HDMI adapter. At 1st, picking the 1080p resolution produces a picture that is too big for the screen that’s the edges are chopped off. Adjusting the under/overscan slider makes it fit, but at the expense of being fuzzy. The solution is in the monitor’s setting, under input choose, each HDMI input has an AV/PC setting. Mine were set to AV by default. Switching that to PC made the image fit perfectly with no fuzzies.
